It wasn’t your typical McDonalds crowd.

Parked outside the JAM Mart/McDonalds building shortly after 9 a.m. Monday were 13 Corvettes from the Greater New Orleans Corvette Club.

The group was making a pit stop for fuel, snacks or breakfast and were en route to take the Talimena Scenic Drive near Mena and on to Texarkana to spend the night before heading back to The Big Easy.

The 13 Vettes who made the short stop in Booneville had departed Mount Magazine State Park after an overnight stay Sunday.

“These cars are such fun to drive,” said Bob Decker of the club. “And when you get to drive in the hills it just increase the fun.”

Then 27 strong, club members had been to a car show in Hot Springs earlier in the cruising weekend.

“It’s been scenic and we’ve enjoyed the nice roads,” said Decker. “In Hot Springs we had a cannonball run through the hillside at a pretty spirited pace. Then they had a parade through the downtown. Everywhere we’ve been the hospitality has been great.”
