Man Charged With Rape, Sexual Assault Of 8-Year Old

A 57-year old Booneville man has been charged with two counts of rape and two counts of second degree sexual assault in a case involving a then 8-year old female.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, in March the alleged victim told an Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division investigator that she was touched and penetrated by David D. Goff, 57, prior to December of last year. She also detailed other sexual contact with the man.

The affidavit states a Booneville Police Department investigator attempted to conduct an interview with Goff on April 4 but Goff declined to do so without the presence of his attorney, Ernie Witt. The affidavit further states the BPD investigator contacted Witt but Witt also later declined to provide his client for an interview.

According to court documents Goff is to be arraigned on the charges on July 8. However, since Goff’s arrest and his May 30 arrest and subsequent release on a $10,000 bond, Witt has forwarded an entry of appearance on Goff’s behalf, he has waived formal arraignment and entered a plea of not guilty.

The rape counts against Goff are Class Y felonies punishable upon conviction by 10 to 40 years, or life in prison. The sexual assault charges are Class B felonies punishable upon conviction by five to 20 years in prison and or a fine of up to $15,000.
