This weekend there will be a lot of action on Highway 23 in Booneville; next week the interest will move to Highway 10.
On Saturday it’s the annual October Daze for which Broadway — Highway 23 — will be blocked off from about 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Starting the following Thursday it’s Sell It Again On Highway 10 all the way through Booneville, from Hackett to Ola in fact.
Saturday’s event includes the annual Havest Pageant, live music throughout the day, paintball and a carnival exhibit.
Among those scheduled to perform are Hillbilly Uprising, Denim & Pearl, Nikki Waters and the Restoration Center Worship and Praise Team.
The festival also had almost 40 booth reservations earlier this week, including the standard festival fare of funnel cakes, barbecue, lemonade, nachos and others.
Also included are multiple craft vendors and even a local author and other book sales.
“Every year we’ll have a handful of booths of stuff you have to go see,” said Stacey McCollough, executive director of the Booneville Development Corporation/South Logan County Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the event.
A little further south, off of Highway 23 and up the hill to the Booneville Human Development Center, you an partake in a guided walking tour similar to a “Walk through History” event.
Lead by Rachel Silva, a Preservation Outreach Coordinator with the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, the tour will will begin at 9 a.m. in front of the Nyberg Building.
The tour will take about two hours and visit several buildings on the grounds. Organizers say to please be prepared for warm weather and wear comfortable shoes.
The tour will be at least the third conducted by Silva. In June of last year over 50 people attend a walking tour of the Sanatorium. Among those attending the event were former patients, employees, local citizens and history buffs.
Silva also led a “Walking Through History” tour of the facility in March of 2009 that drew 120.
A cookout will be held at the Sanatorium Museum following the tour. Visit the museum website — artbmuseum.com — for details and directions.
Highway 10 is not completely omitted Saturday, because Simple Simon’s will host a car show event at their new location at 555 East Main (Highway 10).
Next week Highway 10 will be abuzz with yard sales stretching from Ola to Hackett.
