Booneville High School along with the SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Club will host the Ethan Napier Toy for Tots Throw on Dec. 5, during the junior high boys basketball game against Paris.
Fans are encouraged to bring new soft plush toys to throw onto the court as soon as the home team makes the first shot. All toys will be donated to the Logan County Toys for Tots program benefiting children ages birth to 18 in Logan County.
The first toy toss was held Dec. 11 of last year. A 2010 Booneville High School graduate, Ethan Napier had passed away just four days earlier at the age of 20.
“Ethan’s kindergarten class prophecy, was to grow up and be Santa Claus,” Napier’s mother, Lisa, recalls. “I always told him I thought it was the best profession to get into and he would make the perfect Santa Claus. When he was growing up, every year he would go through all his toys and pick out some to give to needy kids, he loved doing this and helping deliver them also!
“He also loved going to the Pre-K to give out toys as a Bearcat,” adds Lisa Napier. “His first and only two Christmases with his son Holiday, he absolutely loved playing Santa Claus, he always said he wished he was rich so he could buy toys for kids everywhere! Our family is very blessed, and we feel honored to have this named after Ethan.”
Ethan Napier’s death was caused from a birth defect in his heart that was undetectable, Lisa Napier said. The final determination was Cardiomyopathy plus Hypertensive Heart Disease and Coronary Artery Atherosclerosis.
