Tabler Won’t File For Judge

Just days after announcing he would be a Republican candidate for Logan County Judge, Sam Tabler has reconsidered and will not run.

Tabler said he made the decision to withdraw because he discovered that he would be in violation of the HATCH ACT, which he said prohibits federal employees from being candidates in partisan elections.

In order to run Tabler would have had to first retire or resign his position as an animal scientist with the United States Department of Agriculture.

“After soul searching and prayer it doesn’t make a tremendous amount of sense to retire from one job, campaign for nine months for a two year term,” Tabler said Friday.

The filing period began at noon on Monday and will continue until noon on Monday, March 3.

Two Democratic candidates have said they will file to run to replace Gus Young in the Judge’s office. Young announced earlier this year he will not seek reelection.
