In custody. Jerry Morris is being held in connection with a shooting death in Magazine Saturday night.

Bond was set at $100,000 Tuesday for the Magazine man being held in connection with a shooting death that occurred on Martin Loop in Magazine Saturday night.

Jerry Morris, 49, of Magazine has been held in the Logan County Detention Center pending charges in connection with the case since Saturday.

Logan County Sheriff Steve Smith said Monday investigators were in the process of preparing everything for 15th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Tom Tatum, II and that process could be completed as early as today, but Smith said today that now appears to be unlikely.

Samuel “Bert” Gilbert III, 43, died as a result of gunshot wounds Saturday night. Smith said a 911 call was placed at approximately 7 p.m. and deputies responded to the residence where the deceased man was found in a vehicle, Smith said.

Booking information for Morris indicates a Martin Loop residence but the sheriff would not say if the incident occurred at Morris’ home.

The sheriff said several people had been interviewed in the case by Monday and that investigators were in the process of “catching up with some others.”

Smith did say the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting has been recovered but he declined to release other details about the shooting, including what might have precipitated the incident.
