A Georgia woman and Logan County native who was severely beaten while jogging on a trail in Paulding County in Georgia last week is back home in Logan County.
Tina Waddel, 42, was taken from Dallas, Ga. and driven to Logan County Sunday by her father, Logan County Deputy Sheriff Robert Reames.
“Her condition is stable,” Reames said Monday. “She’s doing better.”
Reames said Waddel met Tuesday with a surgeon at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences campus in Little Rock.
“She’s going to have to have reconstructive surgery from the bottom of her eye sockets to her chin and on her nose,” Reames said.
Reames added that his daughter, who was born and raised in Logan County and is a Paris High School graduate and former employee of the Magazine School District, has no memory of the incident that landed her in the hospital.
About 6:42 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, a bicyclist on Silver Comet Trail near Dallas, Ga., reported seeing a woman who appeared badly injured lying on the side of the trail. The bicyclist called 911 to get assistance for the woman, who was going in and out of consciousness, according to a news release posted to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and stabilized the woman, who was airlifted for hospital treatment. Deputies and detectives assessed the scene, which stretched from the roads adjacent to the trail to a wooded area, the release states.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was severely beaten about the head and face. Detectives believe an attacker took the woman to the wooded area and left her there. She later pulled herself out of the wooded area, where the bicyclist found her near the trail, according to the release.
Detectives are trying to determine a motive for the attack, the release states.
The woman was only able to describe that a white man with dark hair had attacked her. Her injuries were severe, according to the release.
Reames and members of his family left Logan County for Georgia on Saturday, Aug. 2.
