David M Swaithes
David M Swaithes, 66, of Paris, died Saturday May 17, in Fort Smith, surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 11, 1947 in Kansas City, Kan., to the late Earl E. Swaithes and Grace M. Reece Swaithes. He was a 1965 graduate of Star City High School and had a Masters Degree in Psychology from the University of Arkansas. Throughout his career he was a rehab counselor for the Arkansas Department of Corrections, ran an alcohol treatment center in Pine Bluff, and was a school psychologist in Irvine, Calif. He had many businesses and interest including real estate, antiques and collectibles and was the retired owner of Affordable Appliances in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sue Clinkingbeard Swaithes; his daughter Stephanie Jones, husband Todd Jones, granddaughter Elizabeth “Meegan” Jones, and grandson Blake Jones of Fort Smith; three stepsons Christopher Davis, Stephen Adams and Allen Adams; a sister JoAnne Dreher of Grady; two brothers Gene Swaithes of Garland, Texas, and Marvin Swaithes of Reno, Nev.; grandson Michael Adams; granddaughters Sarah Adams, Paige Adams, Emily Adams, Alyssa Adams, Kaylee Adams Berryhill and Rylee Davis; and three great-grandchildren.
David will be buried next to his parents in Drake Cemetery in Star City. Memorials may be made to Peachtree Hospice, 2910 Jenny Lind Rd #4, Fort Smith, AR 72901.
