Dedrick Llewellyn “Lew” Powell, 76, passed away Friday, July 11, 2014 in Booneville.
He was born March 25, 1938 in Booneville to the late Foster Whittington “Buck” Powell and the late Esther Strickland Powell.
Lew was a member, Elder and Treasurer of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Booneville. He was also a member of the Blocker Lodge # 247 F&A.M., for 43 years. He was three times the past master of Block Lodge #247 and was appointed District Deputy Grand Master of the State of Arkansas for 2014. He was a member of the Eastern Star #127 and two time Past Worthy Patron. He was an Army veteran.
Lew worked 36 years at the Ace Comb Plant followed by six and a half years as a dispatcher for Booneville Police Department. He retired as a VA service officer after 11 years.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 14, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Booneville with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Booneville, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sue Ellen Powell of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, John Wayne and Janet Powell and granddaughter, Courtney Powell, all of Jackson Tenn.; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Shirley Gunter of Sallisaw, Okla.; one sister-in-law, Mary Watts of Fort Smith; one nephew and his wife Tabie and Amber Richards and their daughters, Ella Emry, and Enli, all of Russellville; nieces Alexa Richards of Little Rock, Katie Gunter of Austin, Texas, and Emily Gunter of Dallas, Texas.
Pallbearers were Doug Shipman, Dale Sharpe, Paul Gene Wisley, Phillip Steele, Joe Henry Earp and Steve Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Masonic Lodge.
