Wilta Fay Sheppard, 84, of Booneville, formerly of Magazine, passed from this life on Friday, May 23, 2014 in Booneville. She was born Nov. 2, 1929 in the Earl Prairie Community near Booneville to Hermon and Viola (Morrison) Phillips.
She was an oilfield wife, mother and grandmother and a retired nurse’ aide at the Booneville City Hospital. She attended the First Assembly of God Church in Magazine and was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was known as “Nanny Shep” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gospel and country music, dancing, horse racing, cooking, playing cards and dominoes, and quilting.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt Frank Sheppard; a brother, Haskel Ray Phillips; and her parents.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 27, at the First Assembly of God Church in Magazine, with burial in Ellington Cemetery near Magazine, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
She is survived by one daughter, Virginia Bradley of Booneville; two sons, Michael R. Sheppard and wife Loretta of Booneville and Randy Allen Sheppard and wife Gayla of Magazine; one brother, Paul W. Phillips and wife Bennie of Washburn; one sister-in-law, Sadie Phillips of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Ricky, Ronnie, Robert, and Jason Shelton, Robert Tripp and James Strickland.
Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Shelton and her grandchildren.
