Rev. James Simons, 91, of Booneville, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in Fort Smith.

He was in the Army for eight years, serving during World War II. He was a Baptist minister for over 50 years, pastoring churches at Calvary Baptist, Bates, Oak Grove and Parkview for over eight years. He wrote and sang his own music and also played guitar and the piano. He was a member of Glendale Baptist Church and also taught a Sunday School class until he became ill. He also preached at various nursing homes over the years.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 15 at Glendale Baptist Church in Booneville with burial at Mayberry Cemetery in Central City under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Friday from 1 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 3 to 6 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Cleda Simons of the home; one daughter, Marion Cousins of Deven, England; one step-son, Larry White of Huntington; one brother, Lloyd Simons of Marion, Va.; two sisters, Gladys Russell of Marion, Va. and Elsie Obey of Missouri; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Qualls, Ray Patton, Lance Brown, Trey White, Billy Fonseca and John Cobb.
