Library Summer Reading Program Starts Friday

<p><strong>Trike-A-Thon</strong></p><p>On May 6 the children of Joyful Days Daycare conducted their annual St. Judes trike-a-thon. The 14 trike riders, staff and nine volunteers were escorted by the Booneville Police Department to the Assembly of God Church where they enjoyed the morning riding trikes to raise money for kids battling cancer and other diseases. Joyful Days raised $1,519.87 for St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital while teaching valuable riding safety tips to the children. Joyful Days would like to thank Simple Simons, Pizza Italia, Kelli Eaves, Ben Villarreal, the Arkansas Wildlife Officers Association as well as all the family, friends and sponsors donating to the cause.</p>

<p><strong>Memorial Flag Display. </strong>The Boys &amp; Girls Club of South Logan County will continue, for a fifth year, an annual event to display flags from Memorial Day through Independence Day. The flag array lining the main drive of Oak Hill Cemetery represents memorials to passed family members and service men and women, along with flags displayed in honor of those still serving their families, community, and country. Each flag is displayed with a personalized placard for a sponsorship fee of $25, which in turn helps support the Boys &amp; Girls Club. To sponsor a flag, please complete a sponsorship form, available at the Boys &amp; Girls Club or First Western Bank East Branch, and remit the sponsorship fee of $25 per flag. <p><strong>Child Abuse Prevention Awareness. </strong>Child Abuse Prevention Awareness was observed during the month of April. CASA of the Tri-Peaks held public awareness events including proclamation signings in the 15th Judicial District in the four counties it serves – Logan, Scott, Yell and Conway counties. Above Judge Terry Sullivan, Mayor Jerry Wilkins, County Judge Ray Gack, attorneys, DHS Department of Child and Family Services staff members, and CASA staff members and advocates were on hand for a proclamation signing held at the South Logan County Courthouse on April 19.</p>
