Dakoda Owens and Brandon Wolski of Booneville finished as the 2013 4A-West conference runners-up in boys doubles in tennis.
The duo came into the district tournament as the three seed with wins over teams from Pottsville, Mena, Dardanelle and Farmington in conference play. They also posted a win over Paris in non-conference play.
Owens and Wolski entered the tournament with only losses to Prairie Grove, who was the number two seed, and Subiaco, whose duo of Jack Moser and Marshall Brooks was the top seed.
Owens and Wolski started the tournament with wins over Austin Thaxton and Woodrow Ramey of Dardanelle, 6-0 and 6-2. In the semifinals the Booneville boys beat Subiaco’s Alex Sharum and Mike Reilley 6-2 and 7-5.
That earned the Bearcat duo a trip to the state tournament later this month.
In the finals the Bearcats lost in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-2.
Owens and Wolski are both seniors who will be completing their careers in the state tournament in Arkadelphia on Oct. 21 and 22.
“They have had an outstanding year,” said tennis coach Ronnie Denton. “They have continued to grow as teammates really working to feed off each other. They pick each other up after mistakes and do everything it takes to be a good team.”
