Broken tackle. Bearcat quarterback breaks away from a Pottsville Apache during the third quarter of Friday’s 35-7 win over Pottsville. Harrel ran for 178 yards on 14 carries and scored two touchdowns.

Booneville ruined Pottsville’s Senior Night Friday with a mercy rule win at John Needham Stadium, 35-7.

The win over the Apaches marked the second straight for the Bearcats in the series since Pottsville beat Booneville for the only time by a mercy rule decision in 2009 at Bearcat Stadium.

Booneville (9-0, 6-0) returned that favor Friday night making the Apaches (7-2, 4-2) their eighth mercy rule victim, including all six conference opponents.

The Bearcats led 14-0 after one quarter on 45- and 47-yard runs by Cody Harrel and Josh Smith, respectively. Harrel’s capped a 91-yard drive.

Harrel was far from through. After a 2-yard Bryson May run made it 21-0, Harrel went 70 to make it 28-0 at halftime. The quarterback had a huge night with 178 yards on 14 carries.

The Bearcats chewed up more than seven minutes to start the second half but came away empty, but a short 42-yard drive was capped by May with his second touchdown on the first play of the final quarter to make it 35-0.
