The Booneville Jr. High Bearcats saw a Conference title slip away when Clarksville scored on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Austin McPhillips to David Sarten on the final play of the night Thursday at Bearcat Stadium to win 18-12.
The loss dropped the Bearcats to 6-4 on the season, 5-2 in conference play including games against Fort Smith Trinity and Class 5A Clarksville, who occupied the spot on the schedule of Maumelle.
Grant Rodatz ran 11 times for 132 yards and scored on a 63-yard run on the first play of the second half that had tied the score at 12-12.
Clarksville had scored on its first two possessions on runs of 28 yards by Rease Howard and 2 yards by Juan Hernandez. Howard ran 24 times for 138 yards.
Those touchdowns sandwiched a 2-yard scoring run by Caleb Draper on Booenville’s first possession of the night.
The Bearcats looked poised to take their first lead late in the first quarter before suffering a fumble for the game’s only turnover.

Marcus Nichols scored on defense and offense and Carson Ray ran twice for 99 yards and a touchdown as the Bearcats put the finishing touches on a 9-0 season with another blowout win.
Michael Hesson accounted for the other Bearcat touchdown on a run of 70 yards and Ray, Noah Reyes and Sammy Haynes ran for two point conversions.
