Late yardage. Noah Gregory picks up yardage in the fourth quarter Thursday as the Bearcats put away the Gravette Lions in a game played in Benton County.

For the second straight week the Booneville Jr. High Bearcats were shut down in the second half, but this week the Bearcat defense returned the favor and a 22-6 halftime score would also be the final as they knocked off Gravette in nonconference play.

Sandwiched around a 54-yard touchdown run by Hayden Fennell were scoring runs of 11- and 1-yard by Noah Gregory as the Bearcats (1-1) built a 22-0 lead by the 3:59 mark of the second quarter.

Grant Rodatz ran for a 2-point conversion after Gregory’s first score and kicked for single extra points after the Fennell run and Gregory’s second touchdown.

Rodatz ran for 56 yards on seven carries but didn’t play after halftime. With his long run, Fennell led the Bearcats with 90 yards on eight carries.

The Lions (1-1) got on the board in the final minute of the second quarter when Chris Childress took a pass from Kilby Roberts 18 yards for a touchdown. A PAT try failed.

Due to the distance between the schools – at least two and a half hours – there was no seventh grade game Thursday. The seventh grade Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Fort Smith Chaffin. The Jr. High Bearcats will host Chaffin at 7 p.m. next Thursday.
