NOTABLE: Booneville will be going for a perfect 10-0 start in its series against Dover on senior night. It will be the last chance for Dover to win a game in the series for a while because of Booneville’s pending drop to Class 3A.
The to-date nine wins without a loss is the most against any opponent who has faced Booneville. The average score of those nine games against Dover is 35-8. The closest game in the series was a 17-8 contest in 1984.
With Matt Berry’s 91-yard interception return for a touchdown against Mena last week, the Bearcats have three defensive touchdowns this year. The 2012 Bearcats also scored three defensive touchdowns. The most defensive touchdowns ever scored in a season is eight by the 1955 team. The last time a Bearcat defense scored four touchdowns was in 2000, when they also scored twice via a safety.
That is notable because last year two of Booneville’s defensive touchdowns came against Dover — one a scoop and score by Bryson May and the other an interception return by Brandon Carter. That was the first two defensive touchdown game for Booneville since Brad West and Bryan Taylor returned interceptions against Mansfield in 2000. Britton English also returned a fumble for a touchdown against Dover in 2006.
Booneville set a school record for sacks in a game against Dover with nine in the aforementioned 1984 game. It’s a record that still stands, though it was matched against Shiloh Christian in a 2004 playoff game.
