NOTES: After winning at least nine game in five straight years, Gravette was 4-6 last year and went to the playoffs as a five-seed. The Lions were picked to finish fourth by 4A-1 coaches this year.

Gravette’s roster boasts 63 players. Using the Arkansas Activities Association classification numbers for 2014-2016, Gravette is the ninth largest Class 4A school. Booneville will be dropping to Class 3A next year.

The inaugural meeting between the two schools last year was a memorable one, due mainly to the weather. Lightning emptied the Bernard McAbee Field in the first quarter. This will, obviously, be the first time the teams have played in Booneville.

When play resumed, Bearcat quarterback Cody Harrel completed a 145-yard effort to beat the Lions. Gravette was held to 119 total yards.

Against Lamar last week the Lions accumulated over 300 yards of offense, according to their page. Cedric Duarte led the way b running for 161 on 31 carries and Wyatt Banta was 9-of-21 passing for 85 yards. Leading Booneville in a win at Ozark last week was Bryson May with 163 yards on 21 carries, with two touchdowns.

THIS DATE IN BEARCAT HISTORY: Booneville got a punt return for a touchdown from Josh Smith last year so could they get another? History says yes. Andy Napier returned two punts for touchdowns against Mena on 9-13-85. Napier scored five touchdowns that night in a 37-6 win.

Trent Goff and Davin Hicks also both returned a punt for a touchdown on 9-13-96. It helped, but the Bearcats lost 26-21 to Mena.

Matt Heissler also ran for 145 yards against De Queen on 9-13-2002 and Randy May had 136 against Huntsville on 20-19 in a game with a great goal line stand and pass breakup by John Schlinker to save it.

Superstitions be darned, Booneville is 7-2 on Friday, Sept. 13.
