The Bearcats beat Clinton 42-13 at Bearcat Stadium in the opening round of the Class 4A playoffs on Nov. 15; Pine Bluff Dollarway won at Clinton 48-7 on Oct. 11. The Bearcats beat Star City 21-7 on Sept. 20 in Booneville; Pine Bluff Dollarway beat the Bulldogs 36-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Class 4A playoffs on Nov. 29 in a game played at UAPB.

The last time these two schools met it was also in the semifinals of the playoffs. To get thus far the Cardinals allowed a season high points in a 47-21 win over Jonesboro Westside, then smashed Ashdown 44-7 and Star City. The Bearcats mercy-ruled Clinton in a game that ended 42-13, Hamburg in a game that ended 35-14 and Lincoln 35-0.
