NOTABLE: A year removed from being the first conference opponent to inflict the mercy rule in Bearcat Stadium, an unbeaten Pottsville took home a loss in a game also played at Booneville last year due to a realignment schedule shuffle. The result was a shared conference title but the Bearcats got the number 1 seed from the conference. The last time the game was played in Pottsville was in week 5 of 2010 when the Bearcats won 28-14.
With Halloween over, tonight marks the first time Booneville and Pottsville have met on a November date.
This series has produced some monstrous statistical games. In the first meeting in 2008 Colton Waters ran for a Booneville school record 298 yards against the Apaches in Booneville. Waters had 79 and 73-yard carries in that game. A year later Talor Tatterson had a 72-yard run and finished with 166 yards at Pottsville. Brock May had a 68-yard touchdown run against the Apaches in 2009. Michael Perry ran for 303 0for Pottsville in the 49-21 game in 2011 — Taylor Hyatt threw for 120 in that game for the Bearcats.
Because Native American mascots are often in the news, besides the Apaches, the Bearcats have previously faced Warriors (Lamar), Seminoles (Osceola), and Indians (Pocola, Okla.).
Even when the Bearcats drop to Class 3A next year, week 9 will continue to be a highlight. Because Booneville will inherit the schedule currently being played by Cedarville in the 3A-4, the week 9 opponent will be Charleston. Like week 9 this year, that will also be a road game.
