The Magazine Lady Rattlers hit 10 of 16 free throws in the final quarter Friday while holding off Hackett, 47-37.

After a loss to Mountainburg earlier in the week, the win moved the Lady Rattlers to 7-3 in Conference 2A-4 play and 11-8 overall.

The Rattlers lost both games last week to drop to 2-14, 1-9.

Leading by five going to the final quarter the Lady Rattlers got six fourth quarter points from Sarah Travis — she had gone scoreless to that point — and Heather Bryan went 3-of-4 at the free throw line to finish the night with a team-high 14 points.

Bryan and Madison Cotton both hit 3 pointers in the opening quarter as the Lady Rattlers held a narrow 10-9 advantage.

Bryan hit twice more from 3-point ranger in the second half and Cotton, who finished with nine points added another basket to help Magazine take e a 21-16 lead at the half.

Kayla Canada hit from 3 in the third quarter and the inside combination of Tierra Phillips and Adrianna Thomas got it going as well with two baskets apiece and it was 32-27 going to the fourth.

Cody Cherry scored twice from the floor and was on his way to a 16-point night but the Rattlers were down 15-9 after a quarter.

Cherry added six in the second quarter but the only third quarter field goal came from Lucas Young.

James Lovell hit his second 3 in the final quarter and finished with six points.

Lady Rattlers 27

The Lady Rattlers were within striking distance at the half but a three-point third quarter ended any chance at a comeback.

Magazine got first quarter baskets from Adrianna Thomas, Kayla Canada and Brittney Bryan but trailed 11-6 through a quarter.

The deficit was still five, however, after Heather Bryan hit the first of her three 3s in the second quarter and both teams scored nine.

A free throw by Heather Bryan and a basket by Brittney Bryan in the third quarter was more than offset by Mountainburg and the Lady Dragons were up 27-18.

Heather hit twice more for 3-point range in the final quarter to finish with a team high 10.

Mountainburg 67

Rattlers 36

A 24-point blitz by the Dragons in the first quarter made the outcome obvious as Magazine managed only a basket by Cody Cherry.

Jason Lovell and Austin Phillips both hit twice from beyond the arc in the second quarter but Mountainburg actually added a point to their lead and it was 41-18 at the half.

Lucas Young and Lovell, who led the way with 11 for the Rattlers, both scored four third quarter points and the deficit continued to grow, to 60-28.
