In their only action of the week last week the Magazine junior high basketball teams both earned double-digit wins over Western Yell County
The Rattlers by a count of 40-29 and the Lady Rattlers by a 33-14 final in games that started a four game set at Diamondback Arena.
Despite the margin, in the boys game the outcome was uncertain until a 15-4 run in the final quarter. James Burr scored 10 of his game-high 19 points in the decisive period.
The game was actually tied at 25-25 when the final quarter began and had been close throughout. The Rattlers (1-1) led 8-6 after one quarter and 16-15 at the intermission.
Shaeffer Loyd, who finished with 10 points, and Matthew Smith had combined to score Magazine’s eight second quarter points.
Smith would add a 3 in the third quarter and finish with seven points.
After a 10-2 opening quarter, the girls game was never close. Kearia Thomas scored six first quarter points for the Lady Rattlers (2-0) and she would lead the way with eight.
Regan Pickartz had a six point second quarter and Courtney Stone hit a 3 for the Lady Rattlers who stretched the lead to 21-6 at the intermission.
Kaylin Bryan’s 3 in the third quarter helped push the lead to 30-8.
