Rattlers Avenge Homecoming Loss

The Magazine Rattlers avenged a homecoming night loss to Hartford by beating the Hustlers 46-44 in Hartford Wednesday.

A night after their third win of the year the Rattlers fell to Union Christian to fall to 3-15, 2-9.

The Lady Rattlers picked up a pair of wins last week and enter the final week of the season 13-8, 9-3.

The Rattlers picked up the win despite struggling mightily at the free throw line throughout the night and especially in the final quarter when they hit only 2-of-8.

A pair of baskets from Lucas Young, and buckets from Keith Dority, Jason Lovell and Cody Cherry in the final quarter would prove to be enough however. Cherry finished with 13, Young 11 and Lovell nine.

Cherry had scored six first quarter points and Donovan Shelton hit a 3 as Magazine opened a 14-8 lead.

After a second 14 point quarter in which five Rattlers scored Magazine had doubled up the Hustlers, 28-14.

Hartford cut into the lead in the third quarter, 34-26, while the Rattlers were 0-of-6 at the line.

Magazine raced to an 18-4 first quarter lead behind eight points from Heather Bryan, a pair of baskets from Brittany Bryan and a 3

from Kayla Canada.

The offense hit a lull in the second quarter and Hartford was only able to draw within 21-16.

Brittany Bryan scored four of her game-high 13 in the third quarter but Magazine was only able to push the lead to 31-26.

Brittany Bryan added four more points in the final quarter and Heather Bryan wrapped up her 12 point night with four of her own as Magazine pulled away.

Union scored 19 points in both the first and third quarters Thursday and the Rattlers tried to keep pace from 3 point land.

Magazine stayed within 19-15 through one behind a pair of 3s by Donovan Shelton and a couple of Keith Dority baskets and was still down only 29-22 at the intermission.

Austin Canada hit three times from 3 in the third quarter to offset much of the Eagle assault in the quarter but it was 48-38 going to the final quarter. Canada finished the night with 10 points.

Jason Lovell’s fourth quarter bucket game him 11 for the night and Cody Cherry scored twice in the quarter to also finish with 11.

Union Christian 31

The Lady Rattlers used a 16 point fourth quarter to put away the Lady Eagles Thursday night. The effort was one by the squad rather than an individual as six players contributed.

It was, however, Brittany Bryan who led the way with the last six of her 15 points on the night.

Brittany Bryan had scored five first quarter points but Union led 9-6. Heather Bryan hit a 3 in the second quarter and Magazine won the quarter 9-6 to draw even at 15-15 at the half.

A 3 by Madison Cotton and a basket by Brittany Bryan was all Magazine managed in the third quarter but the home team trailed only 21-20 going to the final quarter.
