Rattlers Get First Win

With newcomer Cody Cherry ruled eligible, the Magazine Rattlers claimed their first win of the season Friday night, 41-37 over Bigelow.

Cherry, who has moved into the Magazine School District from Ohio, was cleared to play last week and scored 13 points to lead all players Friday and make an immediate impact.

Cherry scored four first quarter point to help offset eight by the Panthers’ Joe Nutt but Bigelow led 10-8.

Lucas Young completed a seven point first half with a pair of second quarter baskets, which matched the Panthers point production, and the Rattlers were able to take an 18-14 lead at the intermission.

Cherry hit three times from the field in the third quarter and Austin Phillips dropped in a 3 for the Rattlers as they opened a 29-22 lead.

With six players contributing to the scoring, Bigelow made it interesting down the stretch but it a couple baskets by Jason Lovell, a bucket by Cherry and three Keith Dority free throws were enough to wrap up the win.

With four players scoring in double figures the Lady Rattlers also closed the week on a good note.

Kayla Canada hit a pair of 3s and scored eight points in the first quarter as Magazine led by double digits, 19-7. Canada would finish the night with 10. Brittany Bryan also scored five points in the opening quarter and would lead Magazine with 13.

On her way to 10 points, Adrianna Thomas had a pair of second quarter buckets to help the Lady Rattlers open a 29-11 halftime lead.

Tierra Phillips scored twice from the floor in the third quarter and was also on her way to a 10 point night. Through three quarters the Lady Rattlers led 41-16.

Coming off a weekend ice storm that dimissed school early one day and cancelled classes for two more, the Lady Rattlers led County Line for a large chuck of the first half.

Then Chenoa Nichols scored 14 second half points.

The Byrans — Heather and Brittany — combined for nine first quarter points and Magazine led 15-11. County Line had pulled even by the intermission.

Nichols scored eight third quarter points and had forged a 38-32 lead. Another six fourth quarter points from Nichols made her the leading scorer in the game and County Line pulled away.

Adrianna Thomas scored 12 to lead Magazine. Brittany Bryan added 10.

County Line 85 Rattlers 25

Trent Gattis and Evan Franklin scored 15 points each Tuesday.

Cody Goodson added 12 points as the Indians built a 26-7 lead after one quarter and never looked back.

County Line’s bench actually outscored Magazine’s entire team, 28-25.

Donovan Shelton led the Rattlers with a team-high seven points.
